Meet Gwen Garrison
Thank you for visiting LifePlan Financial Advisors. Choosing someone to oversee your financial affairs could be one of the most important decisions you ever make. I decided to establish an independent financial services company to take care of clients the way I would want to be cared for. I act as your fiduciary, your advocate, and work diligently for your best possible outcome. I work seamlessly with your CPA and attorney to coordinate all aspects of your financial life.
One of my strongest passions is helping women improve their financial situation, despite the challenges they face. Women usually are underpaid, move in and out of the workforce to care for young children or elderly parents and often are not part of employer retirement plans. So many women come up short on financial savvy and net worth. What you don’t know CAN certainly hurt you. And I hope to change that for my clients by providing useful information and helping them make good choices. In short, I’m a good “explainer”.
Prior to forming LifePlan Financial Advisors, I graduated from University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Communications. Working for advertising and PR firms, I spent the next 15 years explaining complicated medical, scientific and technology subjects in the simplest way possible and owned my own firm for 5 years.
A high-pressure, deadline business and three children under 5 did not mix well, so I changed careers in 1997. I decided to become a financial advisor to help people make better financial decisions. I obtained my securities and insurance licenses, along with intensive training. I study more than 40 hours of continuing education per year. My ability to explain complex information in a way that helps people makes sense of it has been a skill that clients appreciate. There is no such thing as a stupid question, and no limit to the number of times we can go over the same thing if need be.
I also have experienced first-hand the perils of depending on someone else to handle your personal finances, so I am passionate about empowering women to improve their financial life. I spent 11 years with financial planning firms in Atlanta before founding LifePlan Financial Advisors in 2008. Out of the 200 families I serve, about 70% are headed by women. They appreciate that I have been a working single mom, part of a blended family, and a caregiver for my elderly Dad, so I understand the stressful demands of those situations first hand.
I live in Newnan, GA with my husband, Nick, and our two dogs, Moses and Shadow. Between us, we have 5 adult daughters, one son and seven grandchildren. In my spare time, I enjoy photography, reading, and playing with the kids.
